Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted here. Just way, way too many things going on I guess ... things that had to 'wait' until they were ready before I could announce them.
So here it is: Meld Solutions Inc., a company dedicated to developing open source solutions for the Mura Content Management System. Open source as in GPL-licensed (probably ... we haven't settled on which license specifically).
We're starting with Meld Ecommerce ... as well as adapting Meld Forums into a FOSS version as well. We'll be providing commercial licenses too, for a cost, but all of those details have yet to be ironed out.
What *is* ironed out is the "in process" website, which is designed to provide a view into what we are working on, progress of the development, and most importantly collect feedback and comments on the projects themselves. Ecommerce, especially, can be a tricky beast that is very hard to tame, and we're going to be focusing upon building a simple but extensible foundation for the first release. This isn't to say it won't be very powerful/usable right from the start, just that all of the variety of upselling, cross selling, bundling and the morass of tax and shipping settings will be kept simple at first.
Simple, but open to expansion ... you see there will be a lot of work put into making all the applications easily 'pluggable' and expandable. Mura's excellent event system, a common framework, and accessible API will make it easy for developers to add their own 'solutions'.
